About Coach Mike
Mike's journey to becoming Director of Coaching at Wenatchee Futbol Academy is rooted in family, faith, and a lifelong connection to the game. Raised in Federal Way, Washington, Mike went on to attend Seattle Pacific University before settling into married life in Seattle's Phinney Ridge neighborhood, where he and his wife lived for over a decade. In 1993, a combination of life changes—and a desire for a better environment for their young family—led them to visit relatives in the Wenatchee Valley. Within days of returning home, their Seattle house sold, and by August of that year, Wenatchee became home. More than 30 years later, they're still in that same house.
Mike's soccer story didn't begin with instant passion. As a young player, he was placed in goal—much to his dismay—and drifted away from the sport for a time. It wasn't until age 12, encouraged by a friend, that he gave soccer another shot. This time, something clicked. He fell in love with the game and never looked back, playing club soccer with the Norpoint Royals and later competing collegiately at Seattle Pacific as an outside back and midfielder.
After college, Mike stepped away from the game until his own children began playing following the family's move to Wenatchee. That sparked a new chapter—this time on the sidelines. He began coaching recreational soccer and soon founded Total Player Sports, a nonprofit aimed at developing youth athletes. His impact on the local soccer landscape grew quickly: he launched Wenatchee Fire FC in 2001, opened an indoor soccer arena in Cashmere, and even established semi-professional and professional indoor teams in the years that followed. Like many, Mike faced significant challenges during the 2008–2009 economic downturn, but his resilience carried him through.
In 2012, he became the full-time Director of Coaching for Wenatchee Fire FC. Though a later club transition led him to pursue other opportunities—founding OPS FC and working with United SC—his dedication to the Wenatchee soccer community never wavered. He ultimately returned to lead and serve once again, bringing decades of experience and perspective to his role today.
Mike's coaching philosophy is grounded in accessibility and personal growth. He believes every child deserves the opportunity to play the game, regardless of financial means, and to compete at a level that matches their passion and commitment. For Mike, soccer is more than a sport—it's a powerful teacher. Through the game, players learn to set goals, persevere through adversity, respect others, solve problems, and compete with both intensity and joy.
His advice to young players reflects that mindset: never lose sight of the fact that soccer is a game. It will challenge and frustrate you, but those moments are part of what makes it meaningful. Stay committed, give your best, and don't let the tough times take away the love of playing.
Outside of soccer, Mike values time with his family above all else. He enjoys traveling with his wife, working on his home and yard, cooking, and golfing. He also treasures quiet moments and finds deep fulfillment in helping others discover their potential and sense of purpose.
And one fun fact? Mike jokes that he "used to have a lot of hair." When it comes to the professional game, he's a loyal supporter of the Seattle Sounders and an avid fan of Liverpool in the English Premier League.
From player to coach, founder to mentor, Mike Osborn's story is one of dedication, resilience, and a genuine love for helping others grow—both on and off the field.
